Description:

Medium-sized plover, with larger, broader head, larger bill, longer paler greyish green legs and somewhat paler upperparts. Longer legs are paler, with distinct yellowish or greenish tinge. In flight, feet project noticeably beyond tail, has more pronounced dark subterminal band to tail, and has broader white wing-bar across primaries.


Distribution:

Rare passage migrant in Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly through the eastern areas. Mostly prefers sparsely vegetated mountain steppe, mud flats or sandy banks of wetlands, lakes, streams and also grasslands. In the areas occurs up to 3000m.


Behavior:

Foraging involves wading and foot-trembling; tends to pause to pick at prey. Feeds on mud or sand on mudflats, saltmarsh, shores of lakes and rivers and pastures. Diet mainly beetles, also molluscs, worms, crustaceans, other insects and their larvae, and occasionally lizards.
